Sample letter to Huizar

Honorable Councilmember Jose HuizarCity Hall, Room 465200 N. Spring StreetLos Angeles, CA 90012Re: Supplemental Environmental Impact Report for Tract 35022 on Elephant Hillin El Sereno (File #: 04-1413)Dear Councilmember Huizar:I am writing to urge you to utilize your considerable discretion to require asupplemental environmental impact report (SEIR) for Tract 35022, thecontroversial development of 24 luxury homes on Elephant Hill, in light of itsillegal expansion and significant new information about an extensiveunderground water system.Residents and environmental organizations have outlined inaccuracies and otherproblems with the recent City report that recommended NO SEIR for Tract 35022. In an independent analysis, the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) andlaw firm Chatten-Brown & Carstens found that the pending building permit forthis development is, in fact, a discretionary action allowing the City torequire a SEIR for Tract 35022.Last November, you exercised your considerable authority when you introducedthe motion requiring the investigation into the need for additionalenvironmental review for Tract 35022. Please take the next step, consistentwith your commitment to environmental justice, by requiring a SEIR for Tract35022. Further, should the building permit be issued for this permit in the next fewdays, I urge you to issue a stop work order on BD001908, until this matter isresolved.El Sereno residents deserve equitable and fair services from City agenciesresponsible for residential developments. The developers of Tract 35022 mustbe accountable and follow the rules just like everyone else, despite theirwealth, influence and threats. Thank you.Sincerely,NameOrganizationAddressPhone
